Tournament Softball Things-To-Know
You should know that girls tournament softball is a BIG COMMITMENT!
Tournament softball is a year long experience where you will play in weekend tournaments that start at 8AM and end late at night. Most teams of all ages will likely see tournaments that are across New England from Maine to the Connecticut shoreline.
How much does tournament softball cost?
Prices range from $1000 to $3000 per player per year here in Western Massachusetts. What is included in the price will also depend on the team. Uniforms, helmets, batting cage time, indoor facilities, outdoor facilities all have a cost to the organization, so you will want to ask what is included in the price.
Are there fundraisers?
Each organization will have a different approach to fundraising. It's important to get as much information about how the organization will do fundraising. You may find that some organizations will not do fundraising at all for a variety of reasons.
What are practice and tournament schedules?
Practices will be several times a week throughout the year. Winter practices will move indoors to a facility like 413 ATC, Soccer City, or Roots.
For high school aged girls, there is a pause during the high school season to comply with MIAA softball rules. For teams below high school age, expect practices to run in March through June, with tournaments scheduled on weekends.
For high school age teams, once the high school season ends in late May or early June, the summer tournaments begin. There will likely be 2 practices a week and then the weekend tournaments that run Saturdays and Sundays.
Should we try tournament softball?
Yes! As long as you understand the commitment and cost, tournament softball is a great way to develop as a softball player. Remember that no program is perfect, coaching is a critical part of the experience, and it's still just a game.
Reach out if you have any questions as we are connected with parents and coaches at all these organizations who can help answer any questions.
