Essential Gear for Western Mass Softball

Before you step onto the diamond at Murphy Park, you need to make sure your gear is up to par. The Franklin County Softball League follows standard ASA/USA Softball equipment regulations to ensure safety and fairness across all games. Here is what you should bring in your equipment bag:

  • ASA/USA Approved Bat: Check for the official stamp to ensure it’s legal for league play.
  • Softball Glove: A 12-to-14 inch glove is standard for most outfield and infield positions.
  • Cleats: Molded plastic cleats are recommended; metal spikes are generally prohibited for safety.
  • Team Jersey: Most teams coordinate colors or custom shirts for easy identification.

Having the right equipment doesn't just improve your game—it keeps you safe! Western Massachusetts weather can be unpredictable, so we also recommend keeping a light jacket, a plastic garbage bag (to cover stuff in case of rain 🌧️) and plenty of water for those hot July doubleheaders.
